President Cynthia Warrick Shares Insight During Career Center Workshop

Orangeburg, S.C. - SC State University’s Career Center’s series of workshops and seminars for the Spring 2013 semester continues with a very familiar face.

Dr. WarrickInterim president, Dr. Cynthia Warrick, will speak on the topic: “Graduate School Counseling,” on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at 3 p.m. in Belcher Hall Suite, 250. 

In addition to President Warrick’s address, graduate program representatives from SC State University, The University of South Carolina (USC), Clemson University and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, will showcase their graduate programs, beginning at 12 p.m. in suite 250.

As president of SC State University, Dr. Warrick has a passion for student success and works toward students’ abilities to enter graduate education and professional school programs.  She served as the former dean and chief research Officer at Elizabeth City State University and senior fellow in the Center for Minority Health Services Research at Howard University.  A native of San Antonio, Texas, Warrick received a B.S. degree in pharmacy from Howard University; a M.S. degree in public policy from Georgia Institute of Technology; and a Ph.D. in environmental science and public policy from George Mason University.

Warrick has served on the faculties in pharmacy and public health at Howard University, University of Texas School of Public Health, Texas Southern University, and Florida A&M University. An expert on Environmental Justice and community-based research, Warrick uses geographic information system (GIS) technologies to study the spatial relationships between community environments and cancer disparities.  She has worked with numerous communities living near potentially hazardous facilities and sites to assess risks and develop mutual solutions for the community, agency, and industry.  Warrick’s research has been funded by multiple federal and state agencies including: NRC, NIH, DOD, EPA, USGS, and foundations.  She served on the Board of Scientific Counselors of the CDC National Center for Environmental Health / Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry and on research study sections for the Agency for Health Research and Quality, the CDC and the NIH.
