Dean's Message

We are continuing the journey to fulfill our vision “to be known as a premier business program in the Southeast that provides a diverse environment for students to enhance their potential to become future business leaders.” In keeping with this vision, our primary focus is on leadership development, student engagement and innovation.

New initiatives in the School of Business include: the Innovation and Entrepreneurship HUB; a certificate program in Ag Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship; the opening of Belcher Café – the first student operated business on campus; expansion of the MBA program to the Lowcountry Graduate Center in Charleston with a concentration in Healthcare Management, and student participation and winning in several case competitions, including the National Black MBA Association Minority Business Undergraduate Case Competition. Our Executive Speaker Series and the Executive-in-Residence program continue to engage students in leadership development. In addition, students participate in several leadership forums and seminars on campus and across the country.

South Carolina State University’s School of Business was initially accredited by AACSB – International in 2001 and is one of 11 schools in South Carolina and the only Historically Black University in the state to attain this prestigious accreditation. Programs accredited include five undergraduate programs: accounting, agribusiness, business economics, management and marketing and an MBA program with an accelerated general MBA track and tracks in entrepreneurship, agribusiness, and healthcare management. In addition, we offer a certificate program in Ag Innovation and Entrepreneurship and minors in International Business and Human Resource Management. Our graduates are employed in government and industry with companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Inc., J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, among others.

We will continue to provide an inclusive environment and diverse educational experiences for students to enhance their leadership development. Our goal is to ensure our graduates can successfully compete in a global society. We have an outstanding faculty devoted to teaching, service and research. Faculty have research grants totaling more than $3.9 million.
