ARAMARK’s Regional Vice President Joins Series of SC State University Executive Speakers

SC State University’s Spring 2013 Executive Speaker Series (ESS) continues with ARAMARK’s Regional Vice President, Mary Thornton. She will speak on the topic: “Marketing Fundamentals for Success in a Globalized Economy,” on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at noon in Belcher Hall’s fourth floor auditorium.

In her role, Thornton is responsible for all areas of operation in the Southeastern Region, including strategic vision, personnel, financials, client retention, and developing direct reports.

Thornton began her long tenure with ARAMARK in September 1986 as a student employee. Since then, she has held various marketing and operational roles, including retail manager, marketing manager, food service director, district manager, and vice president of operations. She has held responsibility for some of ARAMARK’S largest dining contracts, and some longest term partnerships—Longwood University, Hampden-Sydney College, and Heidelberg College, all ARAMARK partners for more than 50 years! 

Most recently, Thornton served as vice president for compliance for higher education, with responsibility for regulatory and operational compliance initiatives. Prior to that, she was vice president of operations for the Mid-Atlantic Region, responsible for dining operations on 12 campuses in Virginia and Ohio. She provided operational oversight andleadership to 12 direct reports and assisted in client relationship management, contract compliance, new business, and development and retention of existing clients.

Thornton graduated from Longwood University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
