Orangeburg, SC – SC State’s Business Program in the College of Business & Applied Professional Sciences will launch a Financial Literacy Seminar Series in the Spring 2013 semester for students and the Orangeburg community. The primary goal of the financial literacy program is to educate students and low to moderate income individuals and families in the community about the management of personal finances and to provide them with the tools necessary to achieve financial health and economic independence. Participants will learn about various personal finance topics including credit cards, insurance, budgeting, saving, investment, identity theft and protection, estate planning, and retirement, as well as how to avoid financial pitfalls and make wise decisions with their money. “It is our goal to help put individuals on the path to financial independence,” says Dr. Ma, coordinator of the program.
The seminars will be held on the 4th Tuesday of each month, beginning on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. in Belcher Hall 4th Floor Auditorium. Ja”Net Adams will present the first topic in the series entitled, “Managing Credit.”
Adams is a professional speaker that's making personal finance FUN again! She is the CEO of EMACK Consulting. Adams graduated summa cum laude from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. She is a motivational speaker who focuses on financial literacy. She speaks around the country to various universities and corporations. Her experience comes from her own life where she dug out of $48K of debt in two and a half years by following the principles that she now speaks about to audiences around the country. When she is not speaking to audiences, Adams serves as a financial coach to individuals and groups helping them get on a path to financial success through her in-depth seminars and workshops. Her passion is to help others help themselves eliminate debt and build generational wealth.
The Financial Literacy Seminar Series is being sponsored in partnership with the Path to Financial Independence Project funded by the Norflet Progress Fund, which is aimed at clients in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). In addition, Straight Road International and the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development (SFEPD), both 501(c) (3) nonprofit organizations, will assist with providing presenters for the program.
