Alumna, BMW Spokeswoman Schylver “Sky” Foster to Keynote Honors and Awards Convocation

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – SC State University alumna, Schylver “Sky” Foster, will return to her alma mater as the keynote speaker for an annual event that acknowledges the academic accomplishments of SC State student scholars. Foster, who has distinguished herself as an expert in corporate communications, will address some 600 students who will be honored for academic excellence at the university’s spring Honors and Awards Convocation.

Armstrong WilliamsThe ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 3, at 3 p.m. in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. During the convocation ceremony, the university community will acknowledge students who have distinguished themselves in scholarship and service. Such distinctions are symbolically represented through the attainment of presidential medallion pins (gold, silver and bronze) and special academic scholarships and awards.

Foster is currently the manager of Corporate Communications at BMW Manufacturing Co. in Greer, South Carolina. She is deemed a results-oriented professional who is highly skilled at driving organizational development through culture and change management. Foster is greatly experienced in fostering highly collaborative, global matrix environments that ensure the successful delivery of communication. She has an exceptional track record of achieving positive results.

Foster began her career at BMW as a startup team member. She has held many key positions including, manager of Recruiting, Payroll, Training and Development, and manager of Compensation, Benefits and Working Structures. She administered technical training, professional coaching and intercultural language programs.

As BMW’s spokeswoman, Foster is the trusted voice for the automotive leader. She quickly learned how to navigate through the challenges that arose as a result of colleague differences in culture, gender, language and age at the company. She made it her mission to transform those cultural differences into a powerful launching pad for organizational excellence.

Foster has witnessed the tremendous impact that diverse groups can have on a business when they focus on shared values and commonality. Her leadership efforts have proven that improved productivity, morale, competence, innovation and strategy are the result of embracing and building an inclusive corporate culture.

As she climbed through the ranks of the global company, Foster held on to her personal values and expressions of faith, integrity and compassion. She believes that when you love what you do, it is no longer work, it is a revelation of your life’s purpose.

As a motivational speaker, she energizes audiences and encourages them to pursue a greater purpose in their lives and careers. Her stories have activated change in other leaders and companies, as she encourages her listeners to celebrate diversity, to reject a limiting mindset and to position themselves for success by caring deeply for others.

The communications expert has traveled through BMW’s global network to Africa, England, Germany, Austria, Italy, Mexico and Canada. These journeys have allowed her to gain wisdom, as she worked alongside people from many walks of life.

Foster earned a Bachelor of Science degree from SC State University and a Master of Arts degree from North Carolina Central University.
