Campus Safety

Friday, March 1, 2019

Safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors at South Carolina State University are paramount. As many of you may be aware, there have been several shootings in the Orangeburg area to include the recent homicide that occurred in close proximity to our university. The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, Orangeburg Department of Public Safety, Orangeburg County School District and the South Carolina State University Campus Police Department have met to gather information that will help protect our university community as well as the local community. As a result, area law enforcement has increased security within the Orangeburg community.

Therefore, we have put in place several measures that may be of some inconvenience, but will assist in keeping our campus community safe.

• All occupants of vehicles entering the campus must have identification. Failure to present identification will subject the vehicle and occupants from being allowed on our campus.
• Dispatch has increased surveillance camera monitoring.
• Police patrol has increased on campus

Please be assured that these measures are precautionary and there is no immediate or known threat to SC State. South Carolina State University values the safety and security of everyone on our campus and we will continue to take these measures until further notice.
