Alumnus Hamilton R. Grant to Discuss: Transitioning from College to a Career in Business

SC State Kicks-off Fall Executive Speaker Series

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The fall 2019 Executive Speaker Series will kick-off on Wednesday, Sept. 25, with Hamilton R. Grant, president of Grant Business Advisors LLC, which is a financial and strategic advisory firm for nonprofits, small businesses and middle-market companies. The event will be held at noon in the Belcher Hall fourth-floor Auditorium. Grant will discuss the importance of being ready for the real world, in terms of having the soft skills and work ethic needed to be successful in obtaining a job.

Hamilton Grant Since its inception in 2001, Grant Business Advisors has successfully arranged over $1 billion in financing across the country for commercial real estate loans. As president, Grant assists with and is responsible for, several of the company’s financing projects. He also works with clients to understand their financial needs while developing an efficient and effective solution.

Grant is a native of Columbia, South Carolina, where he graduated from Richland Northeast High School. After his high school graduation, he pursued higher education at South Carolina State University and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing.

As a second-generation Bulldog, Grant was a member of the prized Marching 101 Band and served as drum major for two years. While attending SC State, he was also initiated into the Zeta Eta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity in 2010 and the Xi Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in 2011.

After leaving SC State, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Alabama A&M University in 2014. While there, he gained valuable higher education experience by working as a graduate assistant in the Office of the President.

With a passion for his community, Grant serves as the president of the Columbia Urban League of Young Professionals and is the co-chair of Famously Hot New Year (South Carolina’s Largest New Year’s Eve Event). He is a member of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2017, James E. Clyburn Congressional Fellowship Class of 2017, and was named Columbia Business Monthly Magazine’s “Best and Brightest Under 35” for 2017 and Columbia Metropolitan Magazine’s “Top Ten Young Professionals” for 2018. Additionally, he has been featured by several national media outlets such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Guardian, NBC Universal and CNN.

In May of 2018, he was elected by the South Carolina General Assembly as a trustee to South Carolina State University’s board, making him the youngest elected college and university trustee in the state of South Carolina.

Out of all of Grant’s accolades, his greatest accomplishment is being the husband of Alana Grant. The couple will celebrate their first wedding anniversary on November 11.
