Interim President Conyers to kick off Executive Speaker Series

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State University Interim President Alexander Conyers will kick off the Fall Semester Executive Speaker Series with an address at noon Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, in Belcher Hall’s 4th floor auditorium.

Conyers, an SC State alumnus who retired from the U.S. Army as a colonel, has been SC State’s leader since July 13.

The weekly Executive Speaker Series is part of the Leadership & Professional Development Program (LAPD) in the SC State College of Business. The LAPD is designed to equip students with the “soft” skills necessary to begin and to advance in their careers as responsible corporate and community citizens. Students are exposed to practical, professional, and experiential knowledge to complement business course content and academic skill sets.

On Wednesday of each week, the visiting executive meets with College of Business Dean Barbara Adams to receive an overview of the business program and the agenda for the day. The executive then meets with the faculty administrative team, followed by a student roundtable. The roundtable consists of students who meet with the executive for an exchange, sharing information about world events and business issues.

The highlight of the day is the assembly program attended by approximately 100 students. The speaker presents information on business topics, such as current business issues, current research, his/her life experiences, job responsibilities, or important business tips/opportunities. A Q&A session follows.
