Dr. Alfred McIntosh has dedicated his career to strengthening South Carolina communities through education, economic development, and public service. As Extension Director and State Program Leader for Community Economic Development at South Carolina State University's 1890 Research & Extension Program, he provides strategic leadership for statewide educational initiatives, oversees program planning and evaluation, mentors Extension professionals, manages program budgets, secures external funding, and collaborates with government agencies and community partners to expand the university's outreach and impact.
McIntosh has spent nearly two decades advancing the mission of South Carolina State University's 1890 Research & Extension Program through progressive leadership roles in community economic development and fiscal management. His experience includes administering federal and state grant programs, overseeing budgetary operations, developing educational programs for limited-resource communities, and serving as principal investigator for multiple USDA Rural Development grants and clean energy initiatives that expanded business technical assistance and community resources across the state. His commitment to leadership development is reflected through participation in Clemson University's Extension Emerging Leadership Initiative and his selection for Leadership South Carolina's 2026–2027 cohort.
A graduate of South Carolina State University, McIntosh earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting before completing master's and doctoral degrees in management. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he has served as a college instructor, published both scholarly and inspirational works, and devoted many years to mentoring students and coaching youth and high school basketball, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to leadership development both on campus and in the community.
