Irran J. Duncan is a higher education leader dedicated to expanding educational access and empowering first-generation and underserved students to achieve academic success. As Director of TRIO Programs at Spartanburg Community College, he oversees federally funded Student Support Services and Talent Search programs, leading strategic initiatives that promote student retention, persistence, and graduation. He also manages program operations, federal compliance, budgeting, staff development, and campus partnerships that enhance student success and strengthen institutional outcomes.
Throughout his career, Duncan has served in progressive leadership roles across South Carolina's higher education system, including positions with Spartanburg Community College, the University of South Carolina, Denmark Technical College, and South Carolina State University. His experience spans enrollment management, academic advising, study abroad, student retention, and TRIO programming, where he has developed enrichment curricula, recruited hundreds of students annually, coordinated leadership conferences, and created innovative programs that prepare students for college and lifelong success. His dedication to educational opportunity has earned statewide recognition, including the 2024 Spartanburg Community College Trailblazer Award, the 2023 SC TRIO Randal McNeal Spirit of TRIO Award, and the 2018 SC TRIO President's Award.
A two-time South Carolina State University graduate, Duncan earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. He continues to exemplify Bulldog excellence through his unwavering commitment to student achievement, educational equity, and leadership development while helping open doors to higher education for future generations.
