Why do you serve SC State? "I bring genuine compassion and love for SCSU to the Board. My historical knowledge of the Board and the University provides a continuity to strategically govern SCSU. I serve to address first generation students and a population that may not have the opportunity to attend college elsewhere. As a retired CFO from the State Government, my sound financial background will serve the Board well. Also, my knowledge and rapport with the General Assembly will serve the University and the Board well."

Background
Rodney C. Jenkins, a proud alumnus of South Carolina State University (Class of '73) with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, has dedicated his life to public service and education. He has served on the University's Board of Trustees in various capacities, including Interim chairman and chairman of the board and vice chair. His passion for the university stems from his desire to provide opportunities for first-generation students and those who may not have the chance to attend college elsewhere.
Rodney's professional background is rooted in finance, having worked for 28 years with the State of South Carolina in multiple agencies. He retired in 2009 as the chief financial officer of the Office of First Steps, a program designed to prepare children for school. He also held significant roles in the S.C. Dapartment of Health and Human Services, S.C. Commission on Aging, and S.C. Department of Archives and History. Prior to returning to South Carolina, he worked as a financial manager for Metromedia Corporation in New York City. (Now Fox)
In the private sector, Rodney is the CEO and founder of PRJ Consulting LLC, a firm that offers financial consultation to Early Head Start Programs. He is also actively involved in community and professional organizations, including the SC Stars, Inc. (an AAU Basketball Non-Profit Club, Board President), South Carolina State University National Alumni Association (SCSUNAA -Life Member); Greater Columbia Alumni Chapter of SCSUNAA (member and former President); The STATE Club, SCSU Athletic Boosters (member and former president); Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Columbia, SC (member, Church Lay Organization, Bible study teacher, former church trustee); S.C. Department of Juvenal Justice, Friends of Juvenal Justice (former board member and treasurer); South Carolina Government Finance Officers Association (first Black president); Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (former president of the Association’s Black Caucus); Former NCAA football official (referee) and high school basketball and football official.
Rodney is married to Patricia Williams Jenkins, and they are proud parents of two daughters, Marcelite and Cicely.
