SC State’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative to feature mentor/speaker Terrance Tucker on Thursday

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State University My Brother’s Keeper initiative will feature Terrance “Tuck” Tucker, an SC State alumnus and the founder of The T.U.C.K. Project, on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 3-4:30 p.m.at the I.P. Stanback Museum & Planetarium.
 
This event is open to students, faculty, and community members who are eager to gain insights on overcoming obstacles, building character, and embracing the responsibility of uplifting others.
 
The My Brother’s Keeper initiative is a collaborative effort among faculty, staff, and students from various divisions across campus aiming to provide more resources for male students toward better retention and graduation rates. The initiative is housed in the Student Success Center under the leadership of Tyron Clinton, the center’s director.
 
The event aligns with SC State University’s commitment to academic excellence, mentorship, and leadership development. The Student Success Center is honored to host Tucker, whose dedication to service exemplifies the principles of leadership and excellence that SC State instills in its students.
 
The T.U.C.K. Project is a mentorship initiative dedicated to empowering young men in the Columbia, South Carolina, and Augusta, Georgia, regions. Tucker has made a significant impact on the lives of young men through education, empowerment, and service. Since he founder The T.U.C.K. Project in 2016 with just five mentees, the program has flourished, now serving nearly 170 mentees with the support of 15 committed volunteers.
 
Tucker is the author of “Not College Material: My Journal from Janitor to Scholar.” He has spoken at over 200 middle schools, high schools, and colleges, as well as five federal prisons and juvenile detention centers. His work underscores the importance of perseverance, leadership, and community service, inspiring young men to recognize and achieve their maximum potential.
 
Tucker earned a Bachelor of Science in sports management and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from SC State.
 
He has been honored for his exceptional contributions to education and community service. His accolades include SC State University’s Scholar of the Year (2007), the 2018 South Carolina Black Pages Top 20 Under 40 Professional, the 2020 South Carolina Trio Alumni Association Spirit Award, and the 2021 WACH Fox Jefferson Award for his work in the community.
