Phyllon Jackson

Dr. Phyllon Jackson has been the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator at SC State since June 1, 2024.

Jackson's duties include overseeing all aspects of NCAA, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), and institutional rules for compliance within the athletic department. Her responsibilities also include developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive compliance policies and procedures in accordance with NCAA, conference, institutional rules and regulations, while serving as SWA the highest-ranking female in the department of athletics.

Background

Jackson brings a wealth of knowledge in athletics and higher education experience. In her most recent athletic position, she served as the inaugural Associate Athletic Director of Compliance and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Hartford (August 2020- August 2021). In this role, she chaired the athletics department DEI committee and worked closely with campus partners to help promote an inclusive environment to enhance the student-athlete experience.

Jackson previously spent time at Kentucky State University (August 2018- Sept 2019). She served as the Associate Director of Athletics/ Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) with responsibilities in compliance, academics, and internal operations. She also made professional stops at Chicago State University (CSU) (December 2014- August 2014) and North Carolina Central University (NCCU) (May 2006- June 2012). During her tenure at CSU, Jackson began as an Academic and Compliance Coordinator and was elevated to Associate Athletic Director/ SWA. Jackson began her athletic career at NCCU where she spent six years as an Academic Counselor/ Tutor Coordinator and served as the Eagles’s NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program Coordinator.

In addition to her athletic compliance and student-athlete experience, Jackson has a plethora of experience in higher education. She spent time at Greenville Technical College, Central State University and Cleveland State University.

Education

Jackson graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts in History (2001). She then earned a Master of Public Administration from Cleveland State University (2003). In 2024, Jackson received her Doctor of Education in Organization Leadership in Higher Education from Grand Canyon University. In addition, the Cleveland, Ohio native attended the Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement in 2018.
