SC State’s curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) is designed to embrace the application of engineering principles to the design, manufacture, installation and operation of machines and mechanical systems.

The program emphasizes basic principles used in the development and production of such devices as tools, production machinery, parts, fabrication and more. You will receive a strong foundation in the fundamental area of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, machine tools and measurement techniques.

What will I learn?

You will apply your interest in machines in such courses as:
Machine Tool laboratory introduces students to the use of traditional machine tools to fabricate/manufacture parts.
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) of Machine Tools. In this course, you will learn how to write CNC programs and feed them into the machine to fabricate the part.
Manufacturing Process. This course is particularly useful for students who plan to work in manufacturing or assembly plants upon graduation.

Will I get real-world experience?

When and where possible, experiential learning is strongly encouraged in the MET program. Students have the opportunity to intern with several companies. Companies where MET students have interned in the past include:

Where will I learn?

The MET Program is housed in our modern Engineering and Computer Science Complex alongside other engineering and engineering technology programs in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Transportation.
Lab equipment enables the student to acquire relevant experience. The program also has a newly established additive manufacturing laboratory.
