Public meeting set for Aug. 21 regarding SC State storm drainage study
ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State University and the South Carolina Office of Resilience (SCOR) will conduct a public meeting regarding a stormwater drainage study for SC State on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the SC State Engineering & Computer Science Complex Auditorium, 233 Geathers St.
Severe weather events can result in flooding and other storm-related effects, potentially causing damage, displacement and restricting access and mobility. SCOR has contracted with Rummel, Klepper & Kahl, LLP (RK&K) to complete a stormwater drainage study for SC State.
The study is funded by a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT), which is allocated to the state of South Carolina and awarded by SCOR.
The drainage study will assess existing stormwater infrastructure within the SC State campus and affiliated properties, identify flooding issues and locations, develop and prioritize mitigation projects, and establish an implementation strategy for the identified projects.
Join the project team at the open house public meeting to view project and SCOR-related information, ask questions and share your stormwater drainage concerns, and give input on problem areas that experience flooding. This information will be used to map areas of flooding on campus.
The questionnaire also may be accessed and completed online at https://tinyurl.com/SCSUDrainageStudy.
For more information, contact Shakota Johnson, SCOR’s Plans & Studies and Funds Match Program manager, at Shakota.johnson@scor.sc.gov or 803-896-4215.
