Dr. Kierra Carter, LPC-S, LCMHC, NCC, CLC
Dr. Kierra Carter, LPC-S, LCMHC, NCC, CLC, is an assistant professor of rehabilitation counseling in the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. Dr. Carter’s areas of expertise include mental health in underrepresented populations.
Education
- Ph.D. in Counselor Education from North Carolina A&T State University (2024)
- M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling from South Carolina State University (2020)
- B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Mass Communications and Theatre from Claflin University (2017)
Background
Carter is an alumna of SC State. She has previously served as a mental health therapist
at numerous institutions, non-profits, private practices, and state agencies. She
also served as an adjunct professor. She currently a member of the American College
Counseling Association. Awards and recognitions she has received include: Claflin
University’s 40 under 40 Outstanding Leaders Award, Langston University Doctoral Fellow
2023-2024, Palmetto Youth Academy’s Girls Rock Award, Hopkins Middle School Award
of Excellence, The Isaac Wilson Project Trail Blazer Award, and Pee Dee Mental Health
Center Leadership in Mental Health Award.
