Sam Watson
Sam Watson manages the Office of University Relations with responsibility for news releases, student and faculty profiles, feature articles, video reports, images, press conferences and media requests.
Background
The native of the mountainous Northeast Tennessee region spent more than 35 years in the newspaper business, the majority of which was spent covering P-12 and higher education at the local and state levels before entering management in 2008. Most recently, he was the managing editor of an award-winning daily newspaper in Northeast Tennessee before joining SC State in 2021.

Hobbies & Interests
Sam is an avid photographer who finds inspiration in the great outdoors, architecture and street scenes. He also is a film buff with a particular interest in classics, film noir, independent shorts and foreign films. His favorite films are "Some Like It Hot," "From Here to Eternity," "A Place in the Sun," "Night of the Hunter," "Giant," "The Third Man," "Unfaithfully Yours,: "The Wild Bunch," "Red River," "Cool Hand Luke," "Moonlight," "C.R.A.Z.Y." and "The Man from Nowhere." He is a student of the lives and films of Montgomery Clift, Douglas Sirk and Orson Welles.
