SC State cuts ribbon on virtual reality transportation training lab

South Carolina State University is poised to train the next generation of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) professionals with the help of nearly $2 million in federal funding. University officials cut the ribbon on its SMART (Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation) Virtual Reality Lab following a ceremony on Wednesday morning at the Engineering and Computer Science Complex on campus.

SC State mourns passing of former president, Dr. Barbara Rose Hatton

South Carolina State University extends sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Barbara Hatton, a pioneering educator who served as SC State’s first woman president, regarding her passing. Hatton passed away on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was 84.

A community of gratitude: SC State honors service and sacrifice at Veterans Appreciation Program

Veterans Day is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a reminder of courage, sacrifice, and community. At South Carolina State University, that spirit of gratitude came to life Thursday during this year’s Veterans Appreciation program at Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium, where students, faculty, and veterans gather to reflect and give thanks. The program is held annually on the Thursday before Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
