All students at South Carolina State University (US citizens and all International) taking six (6) or more credit hours are REQUIRED to have health insurance. For those students who are not covered under a parent, spouse or other health policy here are some options.
South Carolina State University facilitated a comprehensive medical plan through Wellfleet for a reasonable cost for students who do not have comprehensive health insurance coverage. For further information regarding the health insurance contact: Brooks Health Center or Student Health Insurance .
All students, undergraduate, graduate, and professional (on/off campus or online learning), taking six (6) or more hours the health insurance fees will automatically added to your tuition. However, those students with comparable or equal health coverage will be required to waive coverage at Student Health Insurance .
The comprehensive health coverage through Wellfleet has medical, dental, vision, mental health, pharmacy, and preventative health care coverages; it meets all Affordable Care Act Requirements. PLEASE NOTE: You will automatically be enrolled in the university student health insurance plan if you fail to appropriately waive coverage by the deadline each semester.

Health Insurance Enroll/Waive Instructions
Students are required to “enroll/waive on-line” for Health Insurance each semester. The website IS OPEN for the upcoming academic year.

- Click Enroll/Waive (NEW STUDENT)
- You can Enroll/Waive –Returning Students if you remember the username and password
Students must input/submit proof of comparable/equal insurance coverage to have the cost credited to your account.
After enrolling you can go back into the system, Click My Account, click Go to account. You will be prompted to provide your e-mail address and password previously used on the enrollment form. When complete you will be allowed to print cards, update information, view claims, print claim forms, etc.
Do not forget to print your confirmation page or copy/record your confirmation number.
Students are automatically enrolled for the Student Health Insurance Plan when they register for the semester.
With an approved waiver, the University will “credit” the insurance fee to your account after the close of the DEADLINE!
Students will receive several emails from the insurance verification provider with approved/denied.
(If denied, the e-mail will provide an explanation & steps to take to be approved.)
Please follow e-mail instructions to make adjustments to complete your waiver.
No adjustments will be made after the Waive Deadline.

Should you ENROLL, your account will be activated, and you can PRINT your card.
