Angela Canada

Class of 1994

Canada
SC State alumna Angela Canada will be the keynote speaker at Augusta University’s Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 12, in the Augusta (Georgia) Marriott at the Convention Center.

Canada is the principal culinary team leader for Chick-fil-A Corporate in Atlanta, where she created the restaurant's peach milkshake offered during summers and developed other recipes used by the restaurant chain.

She graduated from South Carolina State University in 1994 with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry and later earned a graduate degree in food science at Alabama A&M University.

Canada's story recently was featured by Augusta University's JagWire news site.

James Gilliam

Class of 1973

Gilliam
Insurance NewsNet recently featured SC State alumnus James Gilliam's Shelter Insurance office in Clinton, Arkansas, as its business of the week.

While stationed at South Carolina State University to teach ROTC, Gilliam used his free time to earn a master's degree in counseling in 1973.

After completing his military career as a professor of military science at the University of Central Arkansas, Gilliam spent a year teaching in Memphis before returning to Arkansas to start his new life as an insurance agent. He took over the Shelter Insurance office in 1987.
