SC State launches ‘Divine Nine Giving Challenge’ to support Garnet & Blue Extravaganza
Tickets are sold out, but your donation can still make a difference for our students.

Rooted in the theme, “Honoring the Past. Investing in the Future,” the Divine Nine Giving Challenge calls upon members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) to collectively raise $124,000, a critical milestone that will propel the university to its overall goal of $1.3 million in support of student scholarships and institutional priorities.
The funds raised will directly advance academic excellence, innovation, and student success, ensuring that SC State continues to provide transformative opportunities for generations of Bulldogs.
“This challenge represents the very best of who we are as an institution,” said Dr. John Michael Lee, Jr., SC State's vice president for University advancement. “The Divine Nine has long stood as a pillar of leadership, service, and scholarship. Through this effort, we are not only honoring that legacy—we are activating it to invest in the future of our students and the continued rise of South Carolina State University.”
Each of the nine historically Black Greek-letter organizations is challenged to raise $10,000, demonstrating the collective strength and impact of the Divine Nine in advancing educational access and excellence:
- Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
- Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
- Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
- Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
- Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
- Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
- Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
- Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
Together, their contributions will play a pivotal role in closing the final gap needed to reach the Extravaganza’s fundraising goal.
“This is more than a fundraising initiative — it is a moment of collective impact,” said President Alexander Conyers. “The Divine Nine has shaped leaders across generations, and today, that legacy continues through their investment in our students. Their support ensures that SC State remains a beacon of opportunity, excellence, and Bulldog Tenacity.”
The Garnet & Blue Extravaganza, set for April 18, 2026, at Willie Jeffries Field inside Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, has already generated tremendous momentum, with over 1,500 guests expected to attend.
While the event is sold out, the university continues to accept philanthropic contributions in support of its scholarship mission.
The Divine Nine Giving Challenge serves as both a celebration of legacy and a call to action, inviting alumni, supporters, and members of the NPHC to come together in a spirit of unity and purpose.
