Board Chair Rodney C. Jenkins appoints Presidential Selection Committee.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State University Board of Trustees has announced the establishment of a Presidential Selection Committee.

The Board of Trustees Bylaws Article IV – Powers of the Board are prescribed in the provisions of Code sections 59-127-10, et seq., Code of Laws of South Carolina (1976), as amended.

Furthermore, the Board of Trustees Bylaws Article III, Item 1, states, “The Board of Trustees is responsible solely for the selection, periodic evaluation, and retention or termination of the University’s President.”

The Presidential Selection Committee is established as a Board of Trustees ad hoc committee in accordance with SCSU Board of Trustees Bylaws Article VI, Committees; Section 1. Standing Committees.

SC State University Board of Trustees Chairman Rodney C. Jenkins has appointed the following members to execute the selection of the university’s next president:

  • Trustee Douglas Gantt, Chair
  • Trustee Monica Scott , Vice Chair
  • Trustee Louvetta Roseboro-Dicks, Secretary
  • Trustee Danny Varat, Member
  • Trustee William Oden, Member
  • Dr. David Staten, Ex-Officio Member
  • Trustee Henry (Hank) Allen, Ex-Officio Member
  • Trustee Jameel Allen, Sr., Alternate Member

Chairman Jenkins has charged the committee with:

  • Ensuring a selections process that is accurate, transparent, deliberate intentional and accountable.
  • Conducting a search that is inclusive.
  • Engaging key university stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, alumni and business and community partners.

“Selecting a president for the University is the most important job the board of trustees will undertake,” Jenkins said. “This selection process will be launched soon and proceed in a very confidential manner. The only candidate who will be publicly identified will be the person ultimately selected by the Board.”

The Selection Committee will establish a timeline to conclude the selection, though the committee intends to move forward with all deliberate speed.
