Academic Goals and Achievements

The Division of Academic Affairs is committed to the University’s mission of preparing “highly skilled, competent and socially aware graduates to enable them to work and live productively in a dynamic, global society.”  The Student Achievement goals below align to the following goals in The Garnet and Blueprint 2030:  Elevating Excellence (SC State University’s Strategic Plan 2024-2030):

Strategic Initiative 2:  Expand Research, Curricula, & Scholarship

  • Goal 3: Integrate Research into the Curriculum
  1. Offer Research Opportunities for All Students: Ensure that students at all levels, including undergraduates, have access to research opportunities across disciplines.
  2. Mentor Students in Research: Provide mentoring programs where experienced faculty guide students through the research process, from project conception to publication.
  • Goal 5: Cultivate a Culture of Scholarly Excellence
  1. Promote Undergraduate Research Opportunities: Expand undergraduate research programs, including summer research internships and research-focused courses.
  2. Encourage Publication and Dissemination: Support faculty and students in publishing their research in high-impact journals and presenting at national and international conferences.

 

Strategic Initiative 3: Elevate and Amplify SCSU’s Land-Grant Identity and Mission

  • Goal 2: Enhance Student Engagement in Land-Grant Activities
    1. Host Student-Led Community Service Projects: Encourage and support student organizations in developing and leading community service projects that align with the University’s land-grant mission, promoting civic engagement and leadership.

The effectiveness of the university’s academic curricula, teaching, and services will have the following outcomes:

  • Increase the graduation rate;
  • Increase the retention rate for first-time, full-time freshmen;
  • Increase the overall retention rate;
  • Increase outcomes for students in graduate school, the military, and in jobs
  • Increase the number of students involved in research
