College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics & Transportation

Modernize. Solve. Invent. Protect.

If your goals are in engineering, medicine, cancer research, cybersecurity, programming, transportation or any field requiring a solid foundation in science and math, South Carolina can get you there. If you consider yourself a problem-solver, we have the tools you need to succeed.

Our College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics & Transportation (STEM-T) is composed of four departments offering more than 15 degrees and concentrations that will lead to lucrative career opportunities and advanced scholarly activities at the graduate level.

A Message from the Dean

Dr. StanleyThe challenge before many STEM Colleges across the United States and across the globe is to constantly push the frontiers of learning and educating the next generation of scientists and engineers who are not only well-versed in current science and engineering innovation, but also to produce scientists and engineers who are able to build bridges between current science and engineering practice and new technologies. With the recent Carnegie designation of the university as an R2 Institution, the College of STEM-T is poised to rise to the challenge while maintaining the core mission of the university.

As new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Vehicles and so forth challenge the traditional way of doing things, these “disruptive technologies” are poised to become the new norms of learning and business transactions. The world looks up to and expects science and engineering programs to lead the way in navigating these technologies.

Over the last several years, the State of South Carolina has become a manufacturing hub with many manufacturing companies such as Boeing Aircraft, BMW, Volvo Motors, Samsung and Scott Motors who call the State home. This has led to an increase in the demand for both science and engineering graduates. SC State University stands ready to partner with these companies to proffer solutions to mitigate the manpower shortages these companies face by establishing three (3) new undergraduate degree programs in engineering and one (1) graduate degree program online. These programs include:

  • Computer Engineering BS
  • Electrical Engineering BS
  • Mechanical Engineering-BS
  • Cybersecurity MS (online)

Furthermore, through the newly established Center for Energy and Environmental Solutions (CEES), the college seeks to expand its research capacity in alternative energy sources such as solar, nuclear, hydrogen and more.

STEM Showcase

SC State’s STEM-T College is dedicated to providing the best education possible in STEM-related fields with a growing number of majors and disciplines that meet the demands of industry and advanced research.

Our high-profile programs include computer science, nuclear engineering, mechatronics engineering, biological and physical sciences and more. The recent additions of the growing fields of cybersecurity and fire protection engineering to our degree programs demonstrate our commitment to staying relevant. This makes our graduates more marketable and better equipped for 21st-century careers.

Our students learn by doing. Our partnerships with businesses, major manufacturers, nuclear sites and medical providers give students internship opportunities. That means you can learn on the job while applying the knowledge you have developed in our labs and classrooms. Internships often lead to full time employment after graduation.

Apply to SC State Today!

As early as your freshman year, you may also conduct undergraduate research, allowing you to contribute to the base of knowledge in your chosen field even before you head off to the world of work or to graduate school.

Modern Facilities & Labs

Leroy Davis Hall
Chemistry Lab
Transportation VR Lab

The STEM-T College boasts two of the most modern and best equipped complexes for STEM-related learning you will find, The Engineering and Computer Science Complex and the Davis Hall-Hodge Hall complex.

The Engineering and Computer Science Complex has three conference rooms, two student lounges and well-equipped labs for the study of engineering/engineering technology, as well as math and Computer Science.

The Engineering and Computer Science Complex also houses the offices of the STEM-T College’s dean and chairs of the Departments of Engineering, Engineering Technology and the Computer Science and Mathematics.

The unified structure of Davis and Hodge combines one of SC State’s newest complexes with one of our oldest academic facilities. The pair of buildings also have first-rate labs and classrooms that support the Department of Biological & Physical Sciences.
