Meet Kaelyn Lockhart, a new Clyburn Scholar in the Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State University proudly announces that Kaelyn Lockhart, a freshman journalism major from Florence, South Carolina, has been named a Clyburn Scholar in the prestigious Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College.
 
Lockhart brings a dedication to academic excellence and a deep interest in political investigative journalism, with a goal to make a lasting impact in the field.
 
“Kaelyn embodies the indomitable spirit of the Clyburn Honors College through her remarkable dedication to academic excellence, impactful leadership, and unwavering commitment to community service,” said Dr. William H. Whitaker Jr., Honors College dean. “Her passion for journalism, combined with her drive to make a meaningful impact, is truly inspiring. We are excited to support her journey and watch as she makes her mark in both our university and beyond.”
 
A recent graduate of Wilson High School, Lockhart achieved a 4.4 GPA and was recognized as a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, and as a Columbia Urban League Honoree.
 
Her leadership skills were evident through her roles as SGA Freshman and Sophomore Class president, as well as her commitment to cheerleading, where she served as JV cheer captain and competed at both JV and varsity levels.
 
Additionally, Lockhart was awarded the South Carolina State University Florence Alumni Chapter Scholarship, recognizing her outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments.
 
As a Presidential Scholar and member of the Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College, Lockhart is fully engaged in SC State’s vibrant academic community. She has also joined the Kouture Modeling Troupe, adding to her campus involvement. With an eye on a future in political investigative journalism, Lockhart looks forward to gaining hands-on experience through internships and collaborative projects that will further her skills in editing and multimedia production.
 
Lockhart’s ambition, dedication, and commitment to both academics and community service make her a valuable addition to the Clyburn Honors College. She exemplifies the values of excellence, leadership, and service that are at the heart of the Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College.
