SC State organizations and VoteHBCU register dozens of students to vote

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State University student leadership organizations and VoteHBCU registered nearly 100 students to vote this week during a drive on campus

VoteHBCU stopped at SC State on Tuesday to collaborate with the SC State Student Government Association (SGA), Campus Activity Board (CAB), and the Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College.

The stop at SC State was the most well-attended tour stop for VoteHBCU with 109 students in attendance at the Fine Arts Building’s Barbara A. Vaughan Recital Hall for a panel discussion. The discussion featured NAACP Chapter President Kenadi Taylor, Miss Honors College Rejoice Anaele, and state Sen. Deon Tedder, an SC State alumnus. The panelists discussed the importance of civic engagement at HBCUs.

Following the discussion, the voter registration drive was held in the Fine Arts Building’s atrium. The drive’s goal was to get SC State students registered to vote for the 2024 Presidential Election.

The polling location on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 5) for SC State registered students will be at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Center.

The Honors College, SGA, CAB, and the Divine 9 organizations plan to have more collaboration events with VoteHBCU to increase awareness for voting and civic engagement on SC State’s campus.
