Orangeburg County School District honors SC State’s Felder as April 2025 Alumni Spotlight recipient

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Orangeburg County School District has named Melvin Felder Jr., South Carolina State University’s budget analyst, as the distinguished recipient of the April 2025 Alumni Spotlight Award.

A Bowman, South Carolina, native and a 2008 graduate of Bethune-Bowman High School, Felder exemplifies excellence in leadership, public service and higher education.

"It is always a proud moment when we recognize alumni who continue to pour back into our school district and community," said Dr. Shawn D. Foster, Superintendent of Orangeburg County School District. "Mr. Melvin Felder, Jr. is a shining example of how OCSD graduates make a lasting impact. His dedication to education, public service, and leadership is a powerful inspiration to our students. We are honored to celebrate his achievements and grateful for the positive influence he brings to our schools.”

Following his high school graduation, Felder attended Claflin University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in accounting. He obtained a Master of Science in accounting in 2014 and a Master of Public Administration in 2017 from Strayer University in North Charleston, South Carolina.

In his five years of service at SC State, he has been honored as the 2022 Staff Employee of the Year for his division and was selected for the National Emerging Leaders Program sponsored by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), which he completed in July 2022.

Prior to his tenure at SC State, Felder served the Town of Bowman as assistant town clerk and town clerk from 2009 to 2019.

Felder is a member of Pineville United Methodist Church in Bowman, where he serves as the chairman of finance. He is a son of Melvin Felder Sr. and Terry Felder.

Felder, enjoys spending time with his family and friends, crafting unique party favors, and exploring new destinations through travel.
