ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- For students juggling classes, jobs and campus life, getting answers quickly matters, and at South Carolina State University, those answers now live in one place.

The Division of Enrollment Management has launched FrontPorch, a new student portal designed to reduce student friction by bringing multiple streams of information into a single, mobile-friendly platform. The portal streamlines access to essential university processes, making them more efficient, accessible and effective.

The concept for FrontPorch was first introduced to the student body and the President’s Cabinet and last fall by Dr. Manicia Finch, SC State vice president for enrollment management, who emphasized the importance of meeting students where they are.

“We know our students are always on their phone,” Finch said. “FrontPorch is an all-in-one system — a help desk at their fingertips — that allows them to see critical information and be accountable.”

Within the FrontPorch portal, students can easily navigate key areas including their dashboard, academics, advising, campus life, careers, finances, financial aid, and health and wellness. Prior to the launch, students often relied on multiple applications and the university website to locate information that is now centralized in one convenient platform.

University leaders say the portal represents a meaningful step toward expanding equity and access across the student experience.

“FrontPorch levels the playing field by increasing and enhancing the student experience by accessing information, forms, the university catalog and more,” said Dr. Frederick M. G. Evans, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Student response at SC State has been positive.

Junior Kaitlyn Pinckney said the portal fits seamlessly into her busy schedule.

“I’m a very busy person, so to have something that has everything in one general location, that’s easy for me to navigate and look through helps me out,” Pinckney said.

SC State junior Precious Jackson praised the platform’s design and usability.

“The design is completely sleek. It’s organized — the colors are vibrant. I just love seeing it,” Jackson said.

University leadership also expressed confidence in the initiative and the partnerships that made it possible. SC State President Alexander Conyers emphasized the value of trusted collaborators in advancing student success.

“I’ve learned that when Ed Advancement brings an opportunity to us, we should not pass it up because of their track record, commitment and integrity,” Conyers said.
