SC State Career Center honors students, employer partners at annual banquet

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State University’s Career Center honored more than 40 students and 12 employers during the center’s annual awards banquet on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Orangeburg Country Club.

Career Center Director Joseph Thomas recognized students who earned internships and scholarships and presented plaques to employers who provided the students with those opportunities.

Entertainment was provided by Grammy-nominated jazz musician Willie Bradley, an SC State music industry instructor, accompanied by a trio of SC State student musicians, Zedaki Calloway on drums, Olivia Ratliff on bass, and Skyler Green on the keyboard.

Dr. Frederick M.G. Evans, SC State provost and vice president of academic affairs, delivered opening remarks on behalf of President Alexander Conyers. Dr. Tamara Jeffries-Jackson delivered closing remarks.

Business and service partners recognized: AgFirst Farm Credit Bank, BMW, City of Orangeburg, Duke Energy, Enterprise, Fluor, Integer, RK&K, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Valmont, U.S. Coast Guard and Westinghouse.

The banquet was part of the SC State Career Center’s annual Career Week celebration, culminating Thursday, Oct. 3, with the Career Day Extravaganza. This fair afforded students to meet with dozens of business, industry, agency and graduate school representatives.
