ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State University will conduct its annual Fall Convocation on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 3 p.m. in Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

This year’s featured speaker will be Bishop Simeon A. Moultrie, a proud SC State alumnus, visionary pastor and community leader.

“Fall Convocation is both a celebration of tradition and a call to action for the year ahead,” said SC State President Alexander Conyers. “We are proud to welcome Bishop Simeon Moultrie back home to inspire our students, faculty, alumni, and community as we begin this new academic journey.”

The cherished tradition serves as the ceremonial launch of the academic year and reaffirms SC State’s commitment to excellence, service and scholarship.

Affectionately known as Pastor Sim, Moultrie is the founder and lead pastor of The Brook in Columbia, South Carolina. Since its launch in 2011, The Brook has grown to more than 2,500 members across multiple sites. With over two decades of ministry experience, Moultrie has devoted his life to empowering people through faith, service and leadership.

His work extends beyond the pulpit. Through programs such as the Legacy Scholarship Program, which awards college scholarships and book stipends, and the annual Back to School Bash, which provides supplies and services to more than 1,000 students, Moultrie has impacted lives across South Carolina. His outreach includes partnerships with Samaritan’s Feet, Transitions Homeless Center, the South Carolina Department of Corrections, and Richland School Districts One and Two.

A native of St. Stephen, South Carolina, Moultrie earned both his bachelor’s degree in history and his master’s in rehabilitation counseling from SC State. He also leads The Moultrie Group, a consulting and professional development firm that equips leaders and entrepreneurs through training and summits.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendance is required for all first-year students. Alumni, faculty, staff and community members are also encouraged to attend and share in this moment of renewal and Bulldog pride.
