The high cost of health care in the United States presents a serious health and financial
burden on student and their families. Without adequate health insurance, unexpected
medical expenses could determine your ability to remain enrolled at the university.
The mandatory requirement for student health insurance coverage will assist students
in maintaining good health which is important for academic success.
No! Students are not required to purchase the student health insurance plan if they are
covered under an equally/comparable alternative insurance plan. Students covered under an alternative insurance plan MUST waive out of the health insurance; in order for the charges to be removed from their
student account. Unless the student submits (ON-LINE) proof of alternative health
insurance coverage, he/she will be charged and billed and be enrolled in the health
insurance plan.
YES! Students will verify their health insurance policy information using the online waiver
process.
If the waiver is approved or denied, the student will receive an email from the insurance
company. If the waiver was not accepted, the student will be given an opportunity
to reapply.

Every semester that you are enrolled at the University.
You should complete your enrollment process each semester, so you can maintain control
of your insurance needs. Twenty-four (24) hours after completing enrollment, you can
print out an insurance ID card, by setting up your account under Create Account (use
your email address as your User Name and create a Password). Then under Student Options,
select Print ID Card. The insurance company may also mail a card to the address you
provided.
It is imperative that you enroll each semester during the enrollment/waive period.
All students that do not have an approved waiver by the deadline are automatically
enrolled in the student health insurance. If the student is automatically enrolled,
they can print their card. However, if they are unable to do so, the Health Center
can print it for them. The charges for the insurance will remain on your student bill.
After the close of the Enroll/Waive period, the Treasurer Office will credit or reverse
the insurance premium rate back to the account of students who successfully waived
the insurance. All students taking six (6) or more credit hours during the semester
will be charged the student health insurance premium. It is the student’s responsibility
to enroll or waive each semester. Students who don’t do either, hold up the process for all others.
We are excited to announce that we are now using electronic health records (EHR) at
Brooks Health Center. It is our hope that by using electronic medical records instead
of paper charts, we will be better able to coordinate and improve health care services
to our students and provide us with better access to the information that is relevant
to their treatment with complete confidentiality. The EHR will allow us greater efficiency!
